How Poker Planner works

A Poker Planner session is a room with a short code. The person who creates it is the host: they run the meeting, pick the story being estimated and reveal the votes. Everyone else joins with the code and votes.

1. Create an account

Every participant needs their own account, so the room can show who has voted. Register with your email address and confirm it from the email we send, or sign in with your Google account.

2. Create a session

On the Sessions page, give the session a name (for example "Sprint 42 refinement") and choose a voting scale:

• Fibonacci: ∞, 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 100, ? and ☕
• T-shirt: XS, S, M, L, XL and ?

Not sure which to use? Compare the estimation scales. The new session opens with its code at the top of the room. Click the code to copy it.

3. Share the code

Send the code to your team in chat or on your video call. Each person signs in, enters the code under Join a session, and appears in the participant list. A room holds up to 32 people.

4. Add stories

The host adds the stories to estimate, each with a title and an optional description, up to 50 per session. Selecting a story makes it the one everyone is voting on.

5. Vote

Each participant clicks a card. The participant list shows a tick next to everyone who has voted, but not what they voted, so nobody is anchored by anyone else. You can change your card until the votes are revealed.

If you step away, turn on I'm AFK. It pauses your voting and tells the host not to wait for you.

6. Reveal, discuss and record

When everyone has voted, the host clicks Reveal votes and every card is shown at once. In a Fibonacci room the average of the numeric votes is shown too (?, ∞ and ☕ aren't counted).

If the votes are far apart, ask the highest and lowest voters to explain, then click Reset to vote again. Once the team agrees, the host enters the final estimate and moves on to the next story.

7. Export the results

Export CSV in the story list downloads every story with its description, status and final estimate, ready to copy into Jira, Azure DevOps or a spreadsheet.

What only the host can do

• Add, select and delete stories
• Reveal and reset votes
• Record the final estimate
• Remove a participant from the room
• Delete the session
